CUSTOM MOULDING PROCESS

Phase 1 Design

Clients often bring a sample of an original piece of moulding that they need to match, or perhaps a modification in mind of an existing moulding. Clients sometimes want to use a specific specialty wood material for their custom moulding.

Using precision measurement and imaging techniques, Boden Mills creates a custom CAD file of the desired moulding design.  The client reviews and approves this design and the price estimate, and then the process moves to the next phase.

Phase 2 Fabrication

Using the CAD design file, Boden Mills uses laser fabrication tools and techniques to cut a custom plastic template that matches the intended shape.

The laser-cut template is then traced to grind a custom steel knife.

The steel knife is loaded onto a moulding machine (moulder or shaper) and strips of moulding are run to length.
